“Feng Shui” studies how our natural – and built – surroundings, tangibly influence and shape our daily lives.
Feng Shui is a Behavioral Science
Your home affects everything you do in your daily life. It impacts the way you eat, the way you sleep, how you talk to your spouse, and even how you spend your money.
That’s why we call it Behavioral Feng Shui.
Behavioral Feng Shui can reveal everything about any person in any house, anywhere in the world; because the universal laws which govern how our house influences our lives are the same everywhere.
This is Different than Chinese Feng Shui

But..
It is VERY different than ANY of the Traditional Chinese Feng Shui schools of training which is often – unfortunately – inaccurate AND outdated.
Think about it:
Although nature has stayed mostly the same in the last 10,000+ years, our daily lives have changed immensely!
It’s impossible to use the same advice as we would back then. That’s why we must adapt our use and understanding of nature to modern times.
For example: There was a time when having water on a property would be good advice. Back when it flowed naturally – in and out of a person’s home or village.
At some point in history, it was logical advice.
But, storing water is no longer essential to our survival. In fact, it’s bad for our health.

Another big change is in the design of our homes. Long before air-conditioning and glass windows, homes were designed to stay cool using the natural flow of wind. Houses were designed to allow sunlight into every corner of the house which killed bacteria, keeping people healthy.
Every element of design had a reason and used nature to improve people’s lives. This isn’t true today: Most homes today are designed primarily for their look.
They don’t make the greatest use of airflow or sunlight. Instead, we use electricity to provide lighting and air conditioners or fans for airflow.
Now that you have a better idea of what behavioral Feng Shui is, let’s look at its origins…
Feng Shui’s Real Origins
The origins of Feng Shui, as an understanding of nature’s interaction and influence on human life, dates as far back to Mesopotamian times – and perhaps even further.
(Naturally, it would have been called something else back then.)
Our great (x500) grandparents learned how to live in harmony with their surroundings.
They discovered how to use – and later bend – nature to provide them everything they needed. Namely: Survival, comfort, good health, and a means of income.
First, their developing understanding of the wind’s patterns and water’s movements allowed them to grow more food than they needed and live healthier lives.
Later, as they realized how nature influenced every step of their lives in predictable patterns, they learned WHERE to grow their crops for the best harvest.
And our ancestor discovered how to arrange their living spaces for nature to effortlessly enhance their lives.
From the civilization blossoming in Mesopotamia, this natural science spread to neighboring regions including ancient Babylon, Egypt – and much later, Greece and China.
Over time, it inspired the creation of calendars, rich alphabets, and numerical systems based on the natural elements and movements in nature.
Plus, the design of magnificent architectural structures like the pyramids.
Where did “Feng Shui” go?
The original science fragmented over time.
Differing cultures, belief systems, and humanity’s focus on war, and political power, all took their toll – eroding the natural science…
..Until finally…
Only a few offshoots (or whispers) survived. You’ll probably be familiar with a few of them:

Traditional “Chinese” Feng Shui.
Feng Shui was once widely accepted as an integral part of Chinese culture. (and it still is. Ask any real estate agent with Chinese clients)
In the past, China was one of the few countries that maintained a true knowledge of nature, throughout its early development as a country.
In fact, at one point they used it in almost every area of their lives: Home designs, colors, calculating times to marry or have a child, war, and creating unheard-of medical advances for their time.
But 2,000 years ago, tragedy struck:
A hunger for power took hold…
… The rulers in ancient China ordered mass book burnings and the executions of scholars to “cleanse” China’s people of its “irrelevant” past.
(Fact: Book burnings and mass scholar executions have happened more than once in China. Each time cutting the cord to the past. The last one was less than 100 years ago.)
Only a fraction – with the original knowledge – survived execution. And those who did survive retreated into seclusion. Leaving civilization behind – and most of whom took their knowledge to the grave.

The “Ying and Yang” of Feng Shui
Did you know there’s a male and a female side to everything?..
…Even your own body.
You may have heard the noble prize winning research that discovered our brain’s two hemispheres each had their own unique strengths and weaknesses.
One was the “creative” side – and the other, “logical”. In fact, they are the ying and yang of masculine and femine traights.
our whole body also has a masculine, and a feminine side. The right side of your body is your male side. The left side of your body is your feminine side.
That’s why lefties are often seen as more creative, sensitive and emotionally attuned. Whereas right-handed people are commonly more motivated by logic and assertive.
But, what does this have to do with Feng Shui?
Because every object, including your house has a Male side and a Female side.
Actually, your home is also a physical representation of who you are and the life you live.
That’s why: Your home reveals everything about you. Every action you take in your home, including what you eat, is influenced by one of the two gender forces found in everything in nature.
Here’s an example for clarity:
If your kitchen is on the left (female) side of the property, you’re more likely to only eat things you’re familiar with. Because it is more aligned with the stereotypical female trait of preferring predictability.
But..
If your kitchen is on the right side, you’re more inclined to try new things. You’re even likely to get bored easily when eating the same thing over and over again. This aligns with stereotypical masculine traits.
This is essentially how Behavioral Feng Shui works.

Again, these are personality traits we all have. But, when in this area they will be emphasized more than usual. Here are some general characteristics for you:

However these days it will be more difficult for them to actually fall asleep.
They will be fast thinkers, and able to make decisions quickly.
What about Sex in the Man Area?
People here can be fun and adventurous. They aren’t afraid to get a little wild.

Characteristics:
- Organized
- Assumes they’re right
- Appearances are everything
- Gets into other’s business
- Loves to plan & prepare
Anyone sleeping here (in the back left of a property) will have more pronounced feminine qualities in their personality and behavior when at home.
For example, a man will be gentler in character. They will be more romantic and sensitive. But they’ll also become more talkative and nitpicky in this area. Whereas a woman will be even more detail-oriented and tend to nag more.
Universally, people sleeping in this area of the house will be detail-oriented, organized, and like to have everything in its place. They’ll like to plan ahead, know everything going on around them, and what will happen next.
People sleeping here will have trouble getting to sleep. They’ve always got lots going on. Their minds will be active and they’ll be thinking about many things before going to sleep. Appearances are paramount for anyone sleeping here.
They like to take care of their “image”, and worry about how others think of them.
How’s sex in the Woman Area?
Adults sleeping here enjoy predictable routine. They love something they can count on.

Those who sleep in the girl area (front left of the property) don’t tend to sleep well. They have over-active minds and often dream a lot, or lie in bed thinking too much.
Their restlessness makes them wake up early too, generally leaving anyone who sleeps here feeling chronically unrested and tired. A man sleeping in this area is different from a woman sleeping here.
Typically, any man sleeping in this area will be a quiet and private person. A woman sleeping in this position will love to be involved with whatever other people are doing and enjoy gossip.
If a woman sleeps in this position, she’ll want to feel special, just like any young girl would. She’ll be attention-seeking with those close to her.
How’s Sex in the Girl Area?
Note: Keep in mind that these areas do not have to do with age. They are universal influences that align with these stereotyical characters.
Having said that, any man who sleeps in this area of a house won’t have much interest in sex. A woman, won’t want sex, per se, either. Instead, she’ll want attention and affection from her partner, which could likely result in sex. Her primary motivator is that she wants her partner to make her feel special. That’s why foreplay in this area will be good, but intercourse won’t be anything special.

Instead, he has his eye on larger, flashier purchases.
Men want to buy big toys: A new car or a TV surround sound system.
In essence, a man buys big, and something to last. He doesn’t care how much things cost but rather how good they are (in his mind). If your toilet’s here, behavioral Feng Shui dictates that you’ll share similar spending habits as that stereotypical “male” character.

When a bathroom is in the woman’s area, we know that everything is clean and in its place. Women spend a lot of time in the bathroom, but they don’t hang out in there like a man does.
When they are done with what they needed to do, they will tidy up after themselves, and leave. Women tend to buy little things, even until their money is gone. Especially if those little things are on sale.

This family loves routine.
They come together every night at the same time and all eat together.
They like to make rules and expect everyone to act politely, even when it’s only the family eating together.

Actually, maybe we wouldn’t call it a living room, and instead call it a showcase for any visitors because you can be sure that this room will be kept neat and tidy at all times, just in case someone comes by.
People with a living room here will only invite people over who they feel are important. They want to bring people that they can impress with their kind hospitality and attractive setting into the house.
Conversations in this area will tend to be about other people and will always be pleasant or well-mannered conversations only.

How are young girls in social settings?

If we imagine a typical male in a work environment, we could make some assumptions about his work style. Using this image of a generic male figure, let’s start to describe the working habits of someone with an office or workspace in the man area of a house.
When they sit at their desk, we can say that they’ll do so for very extended periods of time. Because they are not routine-driven, they won’t work each day at the same time. But when they do work, they’ll often be so involved with their work that they’ll lose track of time.
Men usually want everything perfect, but will make a lot of little mistakes, especially when it comes to the details. Just like an average man, anyone sitting here to work won’t be good at highly detailed tasks.
The positive point is that people working here are skilled big-picture thinkers, which allows them to be good at making and achieving lofty goals and targets for themselves.
AN OFFICE IN THE FENG SHUI WOMAN AREA
Work Style:
- Like to plan their days ahead of time
- Everything done in structure
- Bad at creative tasks
+ Tend to be well-organized and tidy.
The characteristics of a woman’s work style are different from that of a man. Women, on average, are more adept at detail-orientated work than men. They often notice many things that a man would miss.
They’re usually also more organized than a man. They tend to like everything in its place, and may even have something on their desk as decoration to personalize it. Someone working in the woman’s area of a house or office will be detailed in everything they do.
They will double or even triple-check their work, worrying about the all the specifics. They’ll be good at delegating work to other people, and overseeing another’s performance.
A bad thing about this area is that it isn’t the greatest for individuals who need to use their imaginations, or come up with lots of fresh or new ideas for their work.
AN OFFICE IN THE FENG SHUI GIRL AREA
Work Style:
- Bossy
- Good at making things look good
- Results presented depend on their mood at the time
+ Tends to have a messy office and won’t spend much time here.
For a young girl, whatever she thinks is important, is.
At least, in her mind it is. Not only is it important, but she feels that others should see the importance of what she’s doing, too. Someone who works in this area will always think that their job is important, and feel that they should receive recognition for their work.
That’s why when they do anything, they want it to look good. But, the actual quality of work will depend largely on their mood at the time. People working in the young girl area are great delegators but can come across as bossy. Not that they care.
People working in this area will love to be talkative while they work, but will only want to talk about anything BUT their job.
AN OFFICE IN THE FENG SHUI BOY AREA
Work Style:
- Does everything quickly, but make mistakes
- Quickly bored with routine
- Great at customer service roles
+ Tends to be mentally restless and won’t spend long periods of time here.
Boys have very short attention spans.
If it’s not interesting, new or exciting, they won’t pay much attention to it.
In this way, those working in the young boy aren’t the type of people who like to sit still behind their desks for extended periods of time.
They want variety.
Any details or routine work will be seen as very boring. This is probably one of the worst areas for someone who needs to do a lot of routine paperwork.
People working in this area excel when it comes to new ideas, new technology, and anything that has to do with being around others and pleasing others.
But be careful…
Those working here have a tendency to start multiple projects without finishing them.
Conclusion
Keep in mind though that when applying what you learned in here that there are of secondary influences such as age, career, gender and culture which also affect a person’s behavior and habits which need to be taken into account too.

Great question. Actually, it is like the Golden Ratio, you can use this same grid on every level to see something different about a person’s life. From the whole property area down to a single room. For apartments, I would suggest to first practicing with the entire property area. That way you can see the lifestyle and overall habits of the individual. For example someone sleeping in the front of the building vs the back would be different, right? Then once you have a clearer overview of the entire property, you can create a second mental grid over the apartment itself (still using the front road for reference). Good luck!

In reference to main doors and front roads. I live in an apartment. What door should I consider to apply what it says in this article? If I take the main door to enter the building I get something different than if I consider the door to enter my apartment.

What you teach is very different and modern way to the western feng shui.
In the book there is no advice on correcting or enhancing cures to maximise the energy of the space. It only explains the energy of the space.
My question is for example in the house, how do i get more money? more business? more friends?
What is the best of the 9 sections best for new business success? What are the enhancements needed? Do I use with western fengshi? for example placing a globe to attract international clients?

Most of the answers to those questions are in the online courses we do, if you take a look at the courses we offer I would suggest the Feng Shui color course.
However, as you know, our Feng Shui is VERY different. As in, no we don’t say a globe will get you international clients. There is also very little logic to that. Instead, we look at how particular colors and areas will influence your specific actions, habits and thoughts and use that to help you change your life.
For example, if you’re looking for more money, you can use specific colors for your house which will enhance that. Whereas if you are looking for more clients specifically, perhaps putting your desk in an area that makes you communicate more with new people (ie clients) would help.
There is nothing generic in Feng Shui. It all requires thought and a specific approach. Best wishes to you!
